Music, however, was always his greater passion ans in 2006 he started a full-time music career. Some success followed with his band “Wasserfall” spawning minor hits “Suikerbos” and “All about me” before disbanding in 2010

Dewald’s first solo album, “Vergeet wat jy weet van liefde” was released in 2012 and reached platinum sales certification. Massive hits including “Eendag as ons groot is”, “Sewentien” and the title track are part of the reason Dewald won “Best newcomer” at the 2013 Ghoema awards, and later that year at the Tempo awards as well.

Ek en Jy”, the sophomore album was released in 2014 and awarded the coveted SAMA award for “Beste kontemporêre musiek album”. The album also boasts 4 Ghoema nominations and a Tempo nomination

“Jy is die Storm”, Dewald’s 2016 release went on to achieve gold status. Containing the hits “Jy is die storm’, “Laat die lig inkom” and “Altyd jonk bly”, this album also took home the Tempo award for Best pop album, as well as a SAMA nomination

In 2018 Dewald expanded into television by joining the group of mentor’s in VIA TV’s “Die Kontrak”. Dewald was also responsible for the theme song, the aptly named “Nuwe Begin”, which Dewald penned with Riana Nel

“Elektrisiteit”, Dewald’s 1st album in 3 years contains the electrifying hits “So sterk soos ’n vrou”, “Stop” and along with the titel track, “Nuwe Begin” and an Incredible Duet of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” with Ivan Roux

Dewald doesn’t take himself too seriously. His favourite hobby is travel and he doesn’t need any excuse to enjoy a couple of drinks with his close friends

To quote the man himself :

“Some of us make excuses. The rest of us make history”
